I find it interesting how the parliamentary system works in the UK. It is alike to the United States Presidential system where people can vote for the people that they like to represent them, but from their it seems as if the parliament takes 100% control from there. Once the parliamentarians are chosen they have control to vote for the rest of the heads of state (or the other ministries and Prime minister). This system seems better to me because it is giving a more time efficient use of power to the house of parliament. Without have to hold a public poll on every topic that comes up, people are less informed ( which is an unfortunate byproduct of this ) however more is able to be accomplished in a shorter period of time with a lower budget.
The house of parliament than posts any news on what is happening at http://www.parliament.uk. This allows the general public be aware of what is happening in their government, without the government having to advertise their every movement.
I have to agree with you on this one Michael. It is like they have their own type of democracy, and it is similar yet different from the United States definition. However, I don't fully agree with what you are saying about how this system is better, because it gives more power to the parliament. I feel that people should be given a more of say in the way that they want to run things. Especially, as Britain is coming out of a recession this is when they need the people the most. I think like the U.S, people are not well informed of the many things that are happening, but it comes down to both the people and the government to work together to find a equilibrium. I find it crazy how we can look a both the U.S and Britain and see how far we have come together.
ReplyDeleteIts kind of funny because of the fact we used to be one in the same(like we were part of the UK).
ReplyDeleteI just feel that if the Government were to spend less time and money trying to post ads that are trying to educate people on topics that do not really matter. I mean I understand that it is good for the people to know, however we should not let spreading information slow our system of fixing problems in the US. which is why I like what parliament has and that is just a web site. If people what to know what is happening then they can go online and look. Then from there it would be cool if they were able to creating a pooling system online. Just to see what the people are thinking.
Then the system of voting would not necessarily be to get people to choose what happens, but have it be so we could put our input in.
